How to team build with Habitat for Humanity in the GTA

Team building is an important part of any office culture. Of course you want to bond with the people you work with every day — but the question is, what is the best way to increase morale, grow team unity and have a unique and rewarding experience?

There are a lot of team building experiences out there, and it can be a conundrum to figure out which one is best for your corporate team or organization. Here are six great activities in the Halton area, including several of our own team experience programs here at Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga. We offer team building experiences for groups of every size and budget.

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga build experience

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga’s innovative team building program is the ultimate corporate team building experience in the GTA. It puts the build in team building! As a corporate team on one of our build sites, your team will join our construction volunteers to build a home for a local family. Safety training is provided, and so is lunch and other hospitality services. We can accommodate up to 20 people, and no construction experience is necessary.

You’ll get a Habitat t-shirt, a hard hat and an album full of photos of your team working hard for a good cause. Not only will your colleagues have the opportunity to work with each other in a new, outdoor environment, but you’ll also gain new skills. Plus, when your corporate team builds with Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga, your hard work isn’t just benefitting your team; it is directly contributing to our efforts to build affordable homes for local families in need of safe and decent housing. It’s a great way to both build your team, and make a difference in your community.

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga ReVive Centre

In addition to our team build on a construction site, we also offer a similar experience in our new ReVive Centre in Mississauga. In this top-team building experience at our indoor ReVive Centre, teams of up to 25 can either build new items in our fully-equipped workshop, or upcycle existing items.

Check out this blog post to learn more about what you can expect from a corporate DIY day at Habitat’s ReVive Centre! It’s a fun, upbeat atmosphere where you can learn new skills, showcase your creativity and make your Pinterest dreams come true, all while contributing to your community in a meaningful way.

Products created by corporate teams through our ReVive Centre team building experiences go on to be sold in one of our ReStores. Proceeds from their sale go directly toward Habitat’s efforts to build affordable housing for those in need of a place to call home.

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga ReStore

You can also host a group session for a half or full day to work in one of Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga’s three ReStore locations. We have ReStores in Burlington, Mississauga and Milton which are suitable for teams of up to 15, 15 and five people respectively.

This unique opportunity is a great way to give back to your community, as proceeds from items sold in the ReStore go toward our efforts to build homes for families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. A team building day in the ReStore could involve a variety of tasks and activities, from merchandising product to assembling furniture.

Your team will have the opportunity to work in a new environment and engage with our friendly volunteers, staff and customers. Not only will you get a better sense of how Habitat uses a unique social enterprise model to engage with the community, but your team will be able to make a direct and positive contribution on the day-to-day operations of the ReStore.

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga Brush With Kindness

If you’re looking for an experience for a large group, look no further than Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga’s recently-launched Brush With Kindness initiative. It’s the ultimate team building experience for teams of 100 people or more. In this unique team building program, corporate teams or organizations participate in a one-day outreach event to revitalize, transform and beautify a community or home in need.

This involves everything from landscaping to small repairs and painting. Brush With Kindness is a cool way to feel involved in your community, while also working with your team to bond and create a sense of unity. Money raised from the team will go towards sponsoring a build in the company’s name.

What are the benefits of team building?

You might be getting the sense that team building days are as much about contributing to Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live as they are to growing your team — and you’re exactly right. No matter which Habitat team building experience you choose, your team will gain unexpected benefits. Whether you’re working in a Habitat ReStore, on a build site or in our ReVive facility, your team will be placed in an unfamiliar environment and learn how to work together in new ways.

Team build days with Habitat engage employees and allow people to interact outside of an office environment. Your employees will return feeling more energized, with new channels and methods for communication and problem-solving — not to mention morale will be high, since giving back to others in the community is a great way to feel happy yourself. Your team may also leave with ideas of their own about how your company can continue growing its social impact, inspired by their time with Habitat for Humanity.

Sure, you can team build by going to an escape room, partaking in a scavenger hunt, or playing ping pong — but when you choose to work with Habitat, you’re not having fun for no reason: you are making a difference, and having a great time in the process.
