Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (Habitat HMD) is part of the renowned global Habitat for Humanity network, recognized for its commitment to mobilizing community resources to provide safe and decent homes for families in need. Since its inception in 1999, Habitat HMD has completed 92 affordable housing units—including 74 units for families living in the Halton Region, City of Mississauga, and Dufferin County, as well as 18 tiny homes for Indigenous communities and as accessory residential units.
Habitat’s unique housing model offers a pathway to homeownership, filling a critical gap in the housing continuum. The organization is dedicated to addressing Canada’s housing crisis and aims to transform more lives by delivering a minimum of 130 new housing units to partner families between 2022 and 2032.
Together, we build a better future for working families through affordable housing.

Our strategic plan lays out a roadmap for Habitat HMD over the next 10 years, and is broken into 3 chapters.
Like the homes we build, chapter 1 of our strategic journey begins with the establishment of a strong foundation. In phase 2 and 3, we will mobilize the partnerships and assets we have established, to grow and expand our housing program and revenue generation models so that we can greatly increase our ability to scale up the number of families we are serving.
Build a strong foundation
Scale up our community impact
Maximize our societal impact
1.1 Establish a diversified menu of affordable housing options
1.2 Make the housing math work for partner families
1.3 Share the multi-faceted impact our housing programs are making
2.1 Advance a culture of philanthropy
2.2 Grow the profitability of the ReStores
2.3 Build financial resilience and sustainability
3.1 Invest in people and culture as the foundation for organizational performance
3.2 Nurture volunteers and strategic partnerships to increase our ability to scale up
Habitat HMD will expand the number of people served through a diversified housing portfolio that reflects the needs of our communities.
While traditional home builds will continue to play an important role—particularly in engaging volunteers and donors—Habitat will increasingly work as a partner in securing housing opportunities for families through a variety of approaches.
By collaborating with developers, municipalities, and other housing partners, we will create new pathways to affordable homeownership and increase the number of families we serve.
Habitat HMD will strengthen its role as a trusted voice in affordable housing across our region.
By sharing our experience and insights, we will contribute to conversations that shape housing policy and solutions at the municipal and regional levels.
Through collaboration with partners across the housing sector, Habitat HMD will help advance new approaches that expand opportunities for working families to access homeownership.
Strengthen the affiliate’s long-term financial sustainability.
Affordable homeownership depends on sustainable financial models.
Over the next four years, Habitat HMD will develop innovative financing solutions that help more families access homes while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our organization.
We will also strengthen our overall financial model by diversifying revenue sources and exploring new opportunities to support our mission.
Habitat ReStore operations will continue to play an important role in supporting the organization, while being integrated into a broader strategy for financial sustainability.
Scaling our impact requires a strong and resilient organization.
Habitat HMD will focus on strengthening its internal capacity by investing in leadership development, succession planning, and an engaged team culture.
We will also continue to create meaningful opportunities for volunteers and supporters to connect with our mission and contribute to the work of building stronger communities.
