If you’re looking for a way to buy furniture while being sustainable, stop by at a local Habitat for Humanity ReStore! Advocates for sustainability and sustainable living are often mindful of how their actions will benefit the environment and future generations. This mindset is good to practice when purchasing furniture because creating it takes up a lot of resources, and throwing good furniture pieces away contributes to our environmental challenges. Also, when you shop at a ReStore, our profits help fund Habitat for Humanity’s program that allows us to build affordable housing for those in need, which benefits people in your community!
Recently, thrift and pre-loved stores have begun to rise in popularity due to their beneficial impact on the environment, and their ability to provide customers with unique items that can’t be found at your regular shopping mall. Furniture available at our ReStores can fit into different trend categories such as vintage, mid-century modern, rustic, contemporary, and more. We are not limited to just tables and couches, but we also have storage units, framed art, electronics, appliances, tools, home decor, and lighting. At Habitat for Humanity, we have both new and pre-loved items available, so if you’re looking for some new items at a lower price, and you want to buy furniture sustainably, we’ve got you covered.
Another plus when shopping at our ReStores, is that you can get these unique pieces of furniture at an affordable price! You can save money on buying furniture for your home, and set aside that money for any renovations or necessities. We have a wide variety of furniture available at our ReStores, so if you’re looking for something that suits your tastes, there’s something here for you!
The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity’s social enterprise which is located in many cities and towns across Canada and the rest of the world. ReStores help repurpose excess or unutilized furniture, appliances, home decor, building materials, electronics, and even clothing for Habitat HMD’s ReStores, thus supporting sustainability while providing revenues to the affordable build projects of Habitat for Humanity in the respective communities each affiliate serves. Habitat HMD’s ReStores in Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and Orangeville helped divert 1.1 Million pounds (or almost 500 metric tons) from the environment through upcycling and repurposing of goods and products across Ontario.
