Volunteers Recognized for Efforts On and Off the Course

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga (HFHHM)’s volunteer dream team — consisting of Gunther Cusolle, Barb Irwin, Jeff Nugent, and Sharon Bondy — has 10,000 volunteer hours between them and a shared passion for golf. With no signs of stopping and the generous corporate sponsorship of Award Construction, these four active individuals took on the 2017 Habitat Golf Classic and returned with stories to share.

The event began with a wonderful sunrise and finished with rain, but smiles remained steadfast after a wet and successful day. Near the 14th hole, in spite of intensifying weather, the women persevered and hit a birdie on the 17th hole. The men decided reaching the “19th hole” was the way to go. Courtesy of the event’s silent auction, Sharon brought home a LCBO gift card and a Niagara bike trip voucher — she and Barb stopped to cash in the winnings on the way home.

When it comes to activities beyond the green, this team of four has shown extraordinary dedication, leadership, and initiative throughout their time with Habitat for Humanity. Jeff, a special project leader, is known as a jack of all trades, Gunther can be found testing electronics in the warehouse, and Barb and Sharon close out the team as long-time ReStore cashiers. Whether they volunteer in a ReStore, out in our community, or on a build site, these individuals work tirelessly to help make HFHHM’s dream of affordable homeownership a reality for all.
