On the Move in Milton

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga has been hard at work in the Town of Milton.

We love Milton. The level of support we receive from the community, our volunteers and donors for our cause is overwhelming. Giving Milton a ReStore location that properly reflects the level of support for Habitat in Milton has been a priority for our affiliate. That’s why we’re so happy to announce that the Town of Milton council has approved our rezoning application for a new ReStore location.

We applaud the vision of Town Council to recognize our affiliate’s need to expand our operations in their town. We recognize and appreciate the bold councillors who voted against the recommendation given to them by town staff. Thanks to their commitment to our cause, we will be able to use our ReStore as a launching point for more social good in Milton through our many initiatives.

We also applaud the town’s decision defer our development charges. This is a step forward in a new process for us. We look forward to continuing to work with the Town of Milton to better serve our community.

Habitat Halton-Mississauga has doubled its capacity in the last two years. As we are rolling out new programs, building new houses, and helping more people, we want to be more involved in the growing community of Milton. These are exciting times. Our new ReStore will build upon the success of our current location. Our staff at the ReStore have done a remarkable job with the current location, and we can’t wait to get to work in our new space.

By expanding our operations, we will make sure our new ReStore is offering more services than ever before. It will act as a training center for our volunteers and be utilized as a centralized warehouse. We also will be partnering with Milton Transitional Housing on a number of initiatives based in our new ReStore.

Habitat Halton-Mississauga is now looking towards the future. The work to move to our new location is still not over, and there are more obstacles to overcome. We are happy to have reached this point, but there is still work to do. We hope to open discussions for new zoning designations for non-profit organizations looking to better a community. We look forward to updating you on this ongoing project.
