A recent study shows we’re more motivated by the prospect of giving back than by a paycheck. At Habitat HMD, we see this first-hand in our team experiences. When you’re working together towards a common goal, you might be surprised at the impact you can have.
The study
When the completion of a task is motivated by a sense of goodwill, you’ll be more driven than if the reward was monetary, according to a study by researchers from the University of Waterloo.
Not only is the desire to complete the task boosted, the product of your work will also be of higher quality. That’s because you’re not working to maximize your earnings, you’re doing it to make a difference in others’ lives.
Many people can’t afford to donate funds to their charity of choice, so donating your time is a great way to get involved. With this powerful motivating force pushing you forward, you’ll see some incredibly impactful results.
Our team days
The team experiences we offer at Habitat HMD provide your group with an opportunity to work together towards a common goal. Visualizing the finish line that everyone’s combining forces to cross will work wonders to unite your team.
With philanthropy at the heart of our work, it ensures more motivated effort than working 9-5 in the office in exchange for a paycheck.
Habitat HMD offers three stellar team experiences that’ll be sure to boost your group’s motivation and unite your team.
Team builds
If you’re looking to build your team’s motivation, join us on-site for a day. You’ll have the opportunity to work side by side to help turn a local family’s dream of owning a home into a reality.
Don’t worry about coming into the build with prior knowledge or experience. We’ll teach you everything you need to know and provide all supplies to bring you a safe and fun day for everyone involved.
As a not-for-profit with the aim of constructing affordable housing within our community, this is one of the most dynamic opportunities for you to see what we’re all about.

Team ReVives
Bringing your team to our ReVive Centre for a day of creating is sure to revive your team’s spirit. This recent addition is an upcycling centre that focuses on transforming would-be trash into stunning and unique items.
Whether it’s breathing new life into old furniture or using recycled materials to build items and create décor, our ReVive Centre is a place for creativity to flourish.
There are few things more motivating than seeing the progress of your piece as you transform it from drab to fab, start to finish.
You bring the desire to DIY, and we’ll provide everything else. From training to tools, we’ll make sure that you walk away with a sense of accomplishment and a new set of skills.
Team ReStores
Our ReStores provide an opportunity for your team to get an insider’s peek into what we like to call Habitat HMD’s “engine”.
Our organization is driven by the mission of bringing affordable housing to our local community. The ReStores act as the engine that allows our work to continue chugging along, covering administration costs so we can focus on building.
Working alongside our community of friendly volunteers and staff, this experience is sure to restore your team’s unity. You’ll have a direct impact on the ReStore’s day-to-day operations and you’ll get the chance to learn more about our social enterprise model which allows us to fundraise in a unique way.
