Long-time supporter of Habitat’s build projects, Levitt-Safety, always holds true to one of the their foremost value principles: giving back to the communities in which they operate.
Recently, Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (Habitat HMD) witnessed their commitment to the community in action and benefited by receiving a large donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the Women Build Event that took place in Burlington from July 20-23.
Victor Levitt started his company selling safety goods off the back of a bicycle in 1935. Today, Levitt-Safety continues to be an independent, Canadian-owned and operated company with over 300 dedicated employees. The company is currently lead by President and CEO, Bruce Levitt.
Partnering with their customers to solve fire, safety and environmental challenges, the company provides quality products and offers a complete range of safety-related services. They handle everything from helping to develop safety programs to training teams to maintain the readiness of their critical fire and life safety systems.
Commenting on the partnership between Levitt-Safety & Habitat Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin, Levitt-Safety’s Sheelagh Bowers, Director of Human Resources/Health & Safety/Quality Management stated “Levitt-Safety is committed to making Canada a safer place to live and work, on the job and at home. We believe that every person has the right to go home safely at the end of their workday, regardless of what that work may be – paid or volunteer.”
Protecting that workforce is the passion of the company. “For Levitt-Safety,” said Sheelagh, “it’s a no-brainer; we get to help our community while promoting the importance of safety in the workplace. We’re now working with Habitat for Humanity on a national level, helping the organization standardize the PPE they use and drawing attention to their new branding. Safety is more than just ‘business’ for us – it’s a way of life, and it’s reflected in everything we do.”
This is the second year that Levitt-Safety has sponsored the Women Build. “We’ve always been conscious in promoting the empowerment of women in all the industries we serve,” Sheelagh explained, “specifically in the trades. This project in particular is in the backyard of our own corporate office, so it means a lot to us to be able to support it with the help of our employees.” And it’s not just the employees that supported Habitat’s Women Build. Sheelagh’s daughter Kaleigh joined the group flying in from Calgary to participate.
Reflecting on the Habitat Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin build experience and what it means to her, Sheelagh added “I was really proud to be in a position to help, knowing how much of a struggle it is for so many families to have a decent home to live in.”
