Sponsor a Habitat for Humanity home

As the weather gets warmer, many of us are planning to get a drink after work, throw something on the BBQ, schedule a summer holiday or catch a game. But too many others, right here in our backyard, are thinking about very different things on a daily basis. Despite working very hard and even sometimes having multiple jobs, many people can’t get ahead.

They’re thinking about how to afford food for their family, pay their bills and ensure their family is healthy, safe and happy. Sometimes, this means choosing paying bills to keep the lights on instead of paying for a nutritious dinner for their children — never mind the extra luxuries that are truly extras for them, despite how hard they work.

Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to help families by providing an affordable home, so they can have stability in their lives and not have to stress about providing the necessities for their families. We’re not alone in this goal. Habitat is proud to work with amazing sponsors and corporate partners in our community to make our dream of affordable housing for all a reality.

Leave A Legacy In Your Community: Sponsor a Home with Habitat

One of the many ways we raise funds is through home sponsorship, which involves a financial contribution and an opportunity to leave your name on a home. This allows a company to leave a legacy in their community, while benefitting Habitat at the same time.

The cost of a home sponsorship can be as simple as a donation for which you’ll receive a charitable tax receipt. But Habitat also offers other unique opportunities for home sponsorship. If you are looking to engage your colleagues, employees or suppliers, you can become a Habitat home sponsor and have the opportunity to take part in a fun and meaningful experience together outside of your day-to-day environment. Habitat can put a package together for you with several options, depending on the goals of your organization.

Whether it’s to come out on the build site as a team several times to roll up your sleeves and help build the home you may be sponsoring, or help out onsite in other areas, you will contribute to helping us build more homes in our community.

You have several options for your team building day. Habitat offers Adopt-A-Day team build experiences on build sites so that your team can contribute to construction projects. This is a great way to directly help build affordable homes for local families. Habitat also offers opportunities to work in our new Mississauga ReVive Centre, where your team can add a DIY touch to products to be sold in our ReStores. You can also work in one of our several ReStore locations to get a fun experience with Habitat.

In all of these experiences, teams will have the opportunity to engage with the family they will be helping through home sponsorship. This will bring teams that much closer to their community, and give them the opportunity to have a fun day that they can feel good about.

Habitat has great brand alignment and awareness opportunities available to help share what you’ve done with your community, or to help you share your message. Depending on what you’re trying to achieve, we can tailor a program that works for you and aligns to your brand goals.

How to sponsor a home with Habitat

There are many ways you can become a home sponsor, whether it’s a full contribution or a split contribution over the length of the build. The funds can be contributed through employee fundraising, employee matching, employee events or challenges. We are happy to share all of the opportunities for engagement and Habitat will come to you to discuss the possibilities. Habitat has incredible long-standing donors, volunteers and partners and we are always looking to find more. To learn more, visit Habitat’s website.

Sponsor Habitat HM’s Biggest Build Ever

Habitat for Humanity Halton–Mississauga has kicked off its largest home build project in our history, on Queensway in Burlington, Ontario. The project, which is already getting a lot of media buzz, involves building 18 beautiful town homes to provide home ownership opportunities for 18 hardworking families. We’ve named this build our Crew-Goetz Landing Build, named after the family who originally owned the land, the Crew Family, and a longstanding Habitat volunteer, Susan Goetz.

Because of this build, 18 local families will receive a hand up as they work towards a brighter future, starting with a happy and safe place to live, something that everyone deserves. You can check out an article about the build in the Burlington Post by following this link, and read more about our Queensway build on our blog.

You might be wondering how your organization’s home sponsorship contributes to Habitat’s efforts to build affordable homes for local families.

Families pay an interest-free mortgage, but it’s never more than 30 per cent of their income, so they don’t have to make as many choices between essentials.  Their down payment is 500 sweat equity hours that are volunteer hours they contribute in whatever way they can to the development of their home.

Land, building supplies and services are purchased or donated before the family begins paying their mortgage back, meaning that money goes back into our revolving cycle to continue the process for another deserving family.

Through our exciting new deferred home ownership model Habitat, for the first time, has the opportunity to build more home and build them faster, therefore helping more families. It also enables our fundraising efforts to go further thanks to government support.
