Here at Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga, we offer a variety of ways for you to give back to your community. You might be familiar with some of our more traditional ways of giving, like our one-time and monthly donation options, our Gift-In-Kind program or our ReStore, which accepts donations of items like furniture, appliances and clothing. But did you know that you can also donate your car to Habitat?
As our affiliate continues to grow, we are in need of vehicles to transport our volunteer teams around the GTA community, move building materials between our build sites and bring donations to our three ReStore locations. You can help by donating your gently used or unused car to Habitat so that we can continue serving the needs of families in our community.
We are currently looking for large fleet trucks, pickup trucks and multi-passenger vehicles, as these cars allow us to transport more people and product to where we are building. If your company or business owns a fleet of trucks, or if you’re an individual who is looking to purchase a new car, consider donating to Habitat Halton-Mississauga. We will issue a charitable tax receipt for your donation, and for corporate donations we offer plenty of brand recognition opportunities to promote your team’s donation to our organization.
The Nissan Canada Foundation has been a fantastic partner of ours, and a perfect example of how donated cars can make a huge difference for Habitat. In addition to generously donating funds for several of our build sites, they also donated the funds for us to purchase two pickup trucks which allow us to move construction materials between our build sites.
To donate your used car to Habitat Halton-Mississauga, simply fill out the form on our website. If you’d like a charitable tax receipt for your donation, make sure you indicate that in your message on the form. After you fill out the form, a member of our team will be in contact with you to further discuss how your donated car can make a difference for our organization and the wider community.
Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga is committed to achieving its vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We build affordable houses for local families in need of a place to call home. The reason we are able to keep our building costs low is because of donations from individuals and companies in our community who share our desire to create affordable housing and generously donate to our cause.
Here at Habitat, we believe everyone needs a place to call home — and we believe everyone can play a part in helping the dream of affordable homeownership become a reality for local families in our community. Your donation of a used car is just one of the many ways you can be part of our efforts to build not only homes, but hope for people in our community.
Where to donate used junk cars
Although we don’t accept donations of junk cars, there are several other organizations in the GTA and Canada who do. Donate A Car Canada offers free towing or pick-up services in every province in Canada. When you fill out their donation form online, you can choose from a list of charities to decide where your used car is donated, and they guarantee a tax receipt with every donation. Accepted vehicle types include cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, boats and RVs. Visit Donate A Car Canada’s website for more information.
Kars4Kids is another Canadian organization which accepts donations of cars, and offers pickup services. You can fill out the form on their website, and they will get in contact to arrange a pickup time. Then your car will be towed, and you’ll receive a tax credit for your donation. Kars4Kids notes on its website that by not using a middleman, they are able to cut the additional costs that some other charities incur, therefore giving a higher percentage of your donation to their cause. The organization supports educational services, youth development and community and family outreach programs.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada also accepts donations of vehicles, including cars, trucks or boats (depending on your location). They accept vehicles of any age or in any condition, and will tow your donation for free. When you donate your vehicle to their Kidney Car Program, depending on your region it is either recycled or sold through a public auction so that it can be reused. You can schedule your pickup through their online donation form.
Funds raised from the Kidney Car Program go towards community programs, including educational awareness and medical research. Visit the Kidney Foundation of Canada’s website to learn more about their used car donation program.
Car Heaven is another organization which accepts donations of used vehicles. They donate the proceeds from donated vehicles to the charitable organization of the donator’s choice. According to their website, Car Heaven “is the only national end-of-life vehicle charitable program dedicated solely to using auto recyclers who comply with the environmental process guidelines” outlined in the Canadian Automotive Recyclers’ Environmental Code. You can register to donate your car through Car Heaven’s website.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) also has a vehicle donation program through Mental Health Cars. If you live in Southern Ontario, you can donate your car, truck or van for free. When you donate your used car, you will receive a charitable tax donation. Your donated car will help CAMH break the stigma and work to find causes and cures for mental illness. You can sign up to donate your car through a form on Mental Health Car’s website.
Teen Challenge accepts donations of used cars, trucks or mini-vans. You can either drop off your vehicle at a drop-off location in London or Milton, or arrange a pickup through the form on their website. The proceeds from donated vehicles help Teen Challenge assist more young people to overcome addiction and get back on their feet. Visit Teen Challenge’s website for more information.
Car Donation Toronto also offers the chance to donate used cars, and they will arrange a free junk car pickup anywhere in the GTA. They support several charities in the area, and will provide a charitable tax receipt for your donation. Donated vehicles are sold as a whole, or sold as scrap metal and parts. Visit Car Donation Toronto’s website to learn more.
