We make it easy for you to donate. You can make a financial donation to Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga right on our website. Through our online donation form, you can either make a one-time donation or to donate monthly through our Hope Builders Program.
Becoming a Hope Builder allows you to make consistent donations to our organization, which helps us to complete work in our communities on time and on budget. Other ways to donate to Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga
Making a monetary donation isn’t the only way individuals can contribute to Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga also accepts donations of a variety of new and gently used items for our ReStores, including kitchens, cabinetry, sinks, home furniture, office supplies and furniture, seasonal tools and supplies, working appliances, home decor and more.
We also have a free home pickup service for furniture. As well, we have a free kitchen salvage program where our team can professionally deconstruct your kitchen. Check out our ReStore website to learn more. We also accept donations of goods and services as gift-in-kind donations, including tools, hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and food.
You can also contribute through donating publicly-traded shares or mutual funds to Habitat, donating large fleet trucks, pickup trucks and multi-passenger vehicles to help us transport our volunteers or donating property for us to build on. Where does your money go?
Your financial donation to Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga goes into our Affordable HomeOwnership program. The cycle begins with a low-income family, who is selected by Habitat to be a partner family. Then, land is purchased or donated; and construction materials and services are either donated or purchased using funds raised by donors and sponsors. During the construction of their home, a Habitat partner family contributes 500 hours of volunteering.
Community volunteers also donate their time during the construction process. When the house is completed, it is sold to the partner family through a long term, no-interest mortgage. Because the costs of land and construction have been covered up to this point, the family’s mortgage payments go into Habitat’s revolving fund, helping to build more homes for more families.
As you can see, your donation plays an important role in the initial stages of our construction process. Your donations will go right to our build projects, meaning when you give your money to Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga, you are helping to build an affordable home for a family who needs it.
Other local charities which accept donations
While researching donating to charity, there are a number of other organizations who use your financial donations to do good in the community. Safetynet Children & Youth Charities accepts financial donations through their website. Donated money goes toward supporting their tutoring and music programs, as well as their clothing and food bank. They also accept donations of certain items of furniture, including couches, tables, strollers and kitchen items.
The Salvation Army offers a one-time or monthly donation option through their website. You can also make a donation in memory of a loved one, or donate to a specific Salvation Army location. Similarly, the Canadian Cancer Society offers donation options for monthly donations, one-time donations, in memoriam and in honour donations. There are also several charities which accept donations of furniture, clothing and other items. Value Village accepts small furniture including chairs, tables, dressers, bookcases, cabinets and entertainment centres.
