There’s more than one way to donate to Habitat. Everybody has something they can give, and here at Habitat HM, we strongly believe that every single contribution matters. If everyone pitched in a little, can you imagine the impact we could have?
Give money
Construction work requires a big budget, and in order to attain our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, we need all the financial support we can get. Donations of any value build up, brick by brick, until we’ve generated enough to construct a home for a hard-working family in need within our community.
Make a one-time financial donation
If you’re not committed to making a regular monetary contribution, making a one-time donation is the perfect way to give. Any amount you give will help families break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. Donations of any value will receive an emailed charitable tax receipt.
Become a Monthly Hope Builder
By choosing to make a small monthly donation, you can change the lives of more than 26 families this year. One of the most powerful supports we rely on as a not-for-profit organization is consistency. By donating to Habitat monthly, you will help to ensure that our build projects can continue on schedule to make the home available for a family within our community as quickly as possible. Give in your will or in memory of a loved one
Making a donation to Habitat as a part of your will or in honour of a loved one ensures that you will leave a legacy of helping others that will span generations. Make your mark within your community by helping to provide a family with a decent place to call home. Your contribution will change lives and not be one that’s soon forgotten.
Where does your money go?
One hundred per cent of every dollar you give goes directly into our fund to build more homes. No portion of your contribution will be used to cover administrative costs, meaning you’ll have a direct impact on the lives of real families.

Why donate to Habitat?
For every dollar you donate to Habitat HM, we see a $4 return on benefits to our community. Families we partner with experience a reduced reliance on food banks and lowered healthcare costs, generating $175,000 in benefits per home built. These returns mean more funding for other programs to further benefit the Halton-Mississauga areas. When every person has a decent and affordable place to call home, everyone benefits.
Give stuff
Donate used furniture to the ReStore
Burlington’s ReStore location is the most successful Canada-wide, and that’s all because of your generous donations. As an entirely donation-based program, what might seem like a mediocre contribution to you makes a world of difference to us. To show our appreciation, all donations will receive a tax receipt worth the value of items donated.
We accept a variety of items beyond furniture, including appliances, home décor, lighting, doors, clothing and cabinetry (to name a few). We ask that all items be in used or gently-used condition. If you have any questions about items we accept, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 905-637-4446 ext. 427.
We also offer free donation pickup (outside your home or indoors) so you don’t have to worry about the heavy lifting.
Donate other items
Habitat is in need of a wide range of donated items, and anything you can offer to help allows us to continue our mission of building more affordable housing inside of our community.
Donate land and property
As a not-for-profit centred around building homes, it’s no surprise that the commodity we’re most in need of is land. If you’re an individual, family or corporation who’s willing to donate land to Habitat HM, you’re quite literally providing the foundation upon which a deserving and hardworking family’s future will be built.
Donate supplies to the ReVive centre
Habitat HM’s ReVive Centre is a green initiative where old items are upcycled into fashionable pieces to style any home, available for purchase in our ReStores. We’re always looking for supplies to help fuel our work, like lumber, paint, or tools. You can feel good knowing that your donations are being transformed into beautiful pieces and are being saved from ending up in the landfill.
Donate your used car
Your unused or old vehicle donated to Habitat will help drive change within your community. With multi-passenger vehicles used to transport volunteers and pickup trucks and fleet trucks used to transport build materials and tools, we’ll put your unwanted vehicle to good use. Don’t get stuck with the hassle of selling your used car. You can feel good knowing your vehicle will help make a difference and we’ll give you a tax receipt for the value of your donation.
Donate construction materials and services
In order to maximize our impact, we try to build with as many donated supplies as possible. The less we have to spend on construction materials, the more we can put into starting new projects. Some of the items we’re looking for include wood, brick, flooring, appliances, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and drywalling.
If you’re in a skilled trade and are looking for a way to make an impact, donate your services with Habitat HM. Alongside a team of skilled and dedicated volunteers, you’ll feel right at home while helping make a family’s dream home a reality. Give time
Quite simply put, we rely on our volunteers. Without them, our work wouldn’t be able to happen. We strongly maintain the philosophy that everyone has something they can give, and we’re here to help you find the best match for you to get involved.
Many of our volunteers come to us with no prior experience with construction, and we’re happy to guide you through every step of the way. You can feel good having made a big difference within your community and walk away with a new set of skills you can use on your home.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army works to support vulnerable people across Canada. They accept donations of items including furniture, clothing, electronics, housewares and books. They have store locations as well as drop bins around the province.

Furniture Bank
Furniture Bank provides families in need with free items to furnish their homes. They accept donations of new or gently-used furniture. They offer a pickup service within the GTA with a starting fee of $100, or they have a donation drop-off centre in Toronto.
