Why team build with Habitat for Humanity?

This week, we were excited to welcome the Nissan Canada Foundation to our Queensway build site for our first official building day. The Nissan Canada Foundation has been a huge supporter of our organization, and we were so glad we got to spend the day team building with their amazing employees!

We always love seeing teams come out for team building days, and we’re happy to share that we have lots of upcoming opportunities for corporate teams located around the GTA. Keep reading to learn more about team building and corporate donations to Habitat!

What team building experiences does Habitat offer?

We know that teams from various corporations may be looking for different team building experiences, so we’re proud to offer several opportunities in the GTA. One experience is our on-site team build day, where your team can come out onto one of our build sites for a full day and contribute to Habitat’s construction of a home for a local family.

Your team can have up to 20 people on site. Habitat will provide safety training, personal protective equipment, lunch, coffee and everything else you’ll need to make your day a safe and fun experience for everyone involved.

Habitat also offers a half or full day experience in our recently launched Mississauga ReVive Centre. Our ReVive Centre is an upcycling facility where volunteers and corporate teams breathe new life into donated items, which then go to sale in our ReStores. Corporate teams of up to 25 people can come in and spend a day adding a DIY touch to items, constructing items and learning new skills.

ReVive also offers lots of opportunities for various experiences. You can make your day unique by adding a competitive element, such as a playhouse challenge where teams spend the day constructing and decorating wooden playhouses to be sold in ReStores.

We also offer team building experiences in our ReStores. Your team can come in for a half or full day in our Burlington, Milton or Mississauga locations, and join our friendly community of ReStore volunteers and staff. Your team will make a direct impact on the ReStore’s day-to-day operations, and will also learn more about Habitat’s social enterprise model which allows us to fundraise in a unique way.

An exciting new addition to our team building experiences is our playhouse build experience, a new mobile opportunity where we’ll bring pre-cut playhouses to your company’s parking lot and compete to take the top spot of most creative playhouse. Decorated playhouses go to sale in our ReStores, to generate additional revenue for our home building projects.

Why team build?

Team building has a plethora of benefits. For one thing, your team has the chance to work together in a new environment — one where your office roles don’t necessarily matter because you’re so focused on achieving a new task together. This gives you the chance to work with co-workers who might normally be all the way on the other side of the office, and develop a stronger connection with any newer members of your team.

Team building also allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment through completing a task together as a group. Whether you’re building window frames on a build site or pricing merchandise in a ReStore, you’ll have a joint mission to work towards as a team. When you finish your day, you’ll feel proud of what you have accomplished together. Plus, if you’ve done something like build items in the ReVive Centre, you can show off your finished products!

Furthermore, team building allows you to learn new skills. In any team building experience, you’ll further develop your “soft skills” like communication, collaboration, initiative and problem-solving. Depending on the experience and organization you choose to team build with, you might also learn other skills like how to use certain tools on a construction site.

Why team build with Habitat for Humanity?

As you can see, there are lots of benefits to taking part in a team building activity. But you might be wondering what makes Habitat’s team building activities unique from all of the other axe-throwing, bubble soccer, paint nights or escape room team experiences out there.

One thing that sets Habitat apart is that when you team build with us, you’re not only bonding with your co-workers; you’re also making a positive impact in your community. Helping out on a construction site helps us build faster and more efficiently; lending a hand in the ReVive Centre allows us to get more unique products out on the floor for sale; and volunteering in a Habitat ReStore helps us keep our operations running smoothly, therefore allowing us to raise more funds for our home building projects. Additionally, the donation that your corporation makes for any team building day goes directly towards helping us build more homes for more local families.

When your corporate makes a donation to charity through team building, you also demonstrate corporate social responsibility to your community. Through brand recognition opportunities via social media, you can show your customers and community the great work that you are doing to make a positive difference in people’s lives. At Habitat, we utilize several social media platforms to recognize our donors, and we’re always happy to engage with our corporate sponsors online to raise awareness about their contributions!

Giving back to your community has also been found to have positive impacts on mental health, wellbeing and general happiness and satisfaction. It’s a great feeling to do something to help other people, and supporting Habitat’s cause of creating a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live definitely fits into this.

When you team build with Habitat, you become a valued member of our community. We’re pleased to invite our corporate partners to our events, such as our groundbreaking and key ceremonies. These events offer additional opportunities for you to meet your community and show that you’re getting involved with local charities and organizations!
