Alberici Constructors, Ltd. is a southern Ontario-based industrial contractor operating throughout Canada. Specializing in water/wastewater, industrial/power, mining facilities, infrastructure, structural steel, buildings, and automotive construction. The company’s history in Canada goes back to 1908.
Recently, Alberici were looking for a way to give back to their local community. They wanted to make a difference and it didn’t take long for them to find the perfect fit – Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (Habitat HMD).
In support of Habitat HMD, Alberici set their fundraising goal at $20,000 and started the process by forming a fundraising committee, giving their project a name (Let’s Raise the Roof for Habitat) and brainstorming ideas for ways to reach their goal. With a Silent Auction being at the top of their list, they turned to their suppliers, asking each for a cash or product donation. Some of the extra items received were a nail gun (donated back to Habitat by the winning bidder) and 15 gallons of paint to be used on the build site.
Rhonda Dobroski, Accounts Payable Supervisor and spokesperson for the fundraising committee explains, “The first question I got was, ‘Well, what do they (Habitat HMD) take off the top?’ and I said, ‘Every dollar we raise will go directly to the build program.’ They jumped right in! I was so grateful because almost all of them were saying, ‘Yeah, we’re with you.’ It was a great feeling”.
Alberici’s fundraiser also included the following money makers: auctioning of 2 vacation days, a Jeans Day every Wednesday, a bake sale every day for a full week, and a garage sale. Every employee in the company was involved, each contributing substantially to the success of the fundraising effort.
But Alberici didn’t stop there! They put their construction skills to great use and joined Habitat for a build day at the Plains Road build site. Don Lauppe, Operations Director, talks about the staff build day experience. “We are an industrial contractor. The opportunities for the people in the office to actually do hands-on work at the job sites are not available. But with Habitat, you have everyone in the trenches together. For us in the industry to do something that has real meaning behind it, your chest fills up a bit and you walk a little taller.”
Alberici has every reason to walk tall because the final amount raised was $21,195, exceeding their initial goal of $20,000! Natalie Poltrock, Administrative Assistant and fundraising committee member comments, “For me personally, the pride is that I know I helped build a new home for a deserving family. It’s something tangible.”
The Alberici Fundraising Committee has a final message to the families who will benefit from their construction efforts and generous donation . . . Enjoy, be happy, and hug each other every day.
