We at Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga love our ReStores. We are proud that they provide the community with affordable hardware and home furnishing solutions while diverting millions of pounds of furniture and building materials from landfills. We are proud of the fact that our ReStores raise money for those in need of a hand-up in our community. The ReStore is wildly successful, innovative solution that contributes greatly to our goal of helping every person have a safe and decent place to live.
We are so excited then, to announce a brand new and innovative project – the first of its kind for Habitat for Humanity: A Pop-Up Donation Bin Collection Program! For the first time in our affiliate’s history, we can bring the ReStore to you. This program is our way of making our ReStore program accessible to those that live far away from our three locations in Milton, Mississauga and Burlington. Donations to our pop-up centres will be used just like other donations to Habitat.
We will take items you no longer need, want or have space for and sell them at a reduced price to other people in the community. We’ll use the funds raised to build more homes for families and individuals in our community. Habitat Halton-Mississauga will be placing these containers in public spaces, giving more access to parts of the population too far from our fixed ReStore locations. The pop-up donation bins are modified sea containers, eight feet high, eight feet wide and 20 feet long.
The donation bins are brightly coloured, professionally branded and will bring approximately 500 more people to additional traffic to your location. Habitat staff will be on location to manage the container and handle donations. We’ll set up on your property for free and will make it a priority to ensure that hosting us on your property is a hassle-free experience. We guarantee that no damage will be done to your parking lot by our container. There will be strict no-dumping guidelines enforced. On top of all that, if for any reason you no longer want the container on your property, we can remove the bin from your property within 48 hours.
Our Pop-Up Donation Centres won’t just be found in public spaces. We will be partnering with community and partner organizations in order to facilitate donation drives that will reduce waste, shrink the carbon footprint in our community by collecting more items, recycling more and in turn building more homes for families in need.
Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga is now looking for property managers to partner with us on this program.
