Turning donated clothes into new homes

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga’s enduring vision is to see every single person have a safe and decent place to live. Our social enterprises, projects, and community partnerships are all created with this singular focus in mind.

Starting this month, Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga  is adding another way to help those in need of a hand up while raising money to build homes for families and individuals in our community.

Habitat HM has accepted donations of gently used furniture and other household items for quite some time. We take these items, and re-sell them at below market prices at our ReStore to help fund our projects aimed at helping everyone find a safe and decent place to live.

We have always tried to accept as many different types of donations as possible, but there is a list of items we have traditionally not been able to accept. Clothing has been one of those items that we have looked at . Our stores were simply not equipped to deal with clothing donations. This changes today.

Our Clothing Drop-Off Centres located at our three ReStores will now be accepting drop-off donations.

This new program does not mean that our ReStores are going to start selling clothes, although we are open to the idea. We are collecting the clothes on behalf of a third-party organization. The money the clothes raise will go directly towards building more homes for families and individuals in the community.

Habitat for Humanity wants to be able to accept donations of all shapes and sizes. Now people who were unable to donate monetarily, can contribute to our cause by donating their gently used clothing.

The drop-off centres are located outside all three HFHHM ReStores:
