Sustainable Fashion: Donate Clothing to our ReStores!

Ever since Habitat Halton-Mississauga’s first social enterprise opened in 2002, it has been a common misconception that the ReStore is a male-centric thrift store, specializing in renovation supplies, construction materials, and miscellaneous hardware.

While we do still specialize in the realm of renovations through our Kitchen Salvage program and the donations of our generous partners, Habitat’s ReStores have grown into something much more unique.

Our modern day ReStores are any thrifter’s dream! You can find everything from trendy home decor to vintage books, collectibles, bedding…

even the odd Kitchenaid has made its way into our stores!

But it’s not just homeware that can be found in Habitat’s ReStores – we now accept clothing donations at all locations! By clothing, we are also including shoes, accessories such as purses and bags, as well as jewelry.

We are accepting clothing donations from all brands, including Nike, Levi’s, Lululemon, American Eagle, ZARA, and Vans!

It’s no secret that waste is damaging when it comes to our carbon footprint and the health of the planet. When you donate clothing to the ReStore, you are keeping it out of the landfill by giving it a second life! If more people purchase donated clothing and the trend of thrifting continues to grow, fewer new items would need to be created. This would save on both textile waste and production.

So make room for Christmas presents and your upcoming Spring style by clearing out the items you don’t wear anymore! Clothing can be put to better use than just as closet fixtures. When you donate clothing and toys, you’re not only decluttering your space, you’re giving someone else the opportunity to enjoy your items!

But why donate to Habitat HM’s ReStores over other thrift stores? I’m so glad you asked.

When you support our ReStores, whether you donate clothing or buy it, you are supporting affordable housing in our community. Because the revenue from ReStore sales covers all of our operational costs, we can guarantee that 100 percent of all monetary donations go directly into our build program. How many charities can say that?

That’s not all. When you donate clothing to our ReStores, you’ll get a charitable tax receipt!

Here’s how it works:

One bag of clothing = $10 tax receipt per 10lbs

One bag of accessories = $10 tax receipt per 10lbs

One grocery bag of jewelry = $20 tax receipt per 5lbs

All clothing, accessories, and jewelry must be in decent condition! If it’s not in decent condition, we urge you to recycle it properly using Canada’s inventory of recycling programs.

As of now, clothing donations can only be picked up as an add-on with furniture or other large items. The best way to donate clothing is by dropping it off at any of our locations!

As for the items we take…
