Why is art important for your home?

Makes a house feel like a home

The quality that transforms a house into feeling like a home is warmth. What better way to add warmth than to hang art on your walls? Whether it’s a photograph that was perfectly framed by a skilled photographer or a painting with intricate brush strokes that show the care its artist put into the piece, art brings a humanistic quality that makes every space feel more homey.

Makes your home unique

While newer homes are following cookie-cutter exterior designs, don’t let the inside of your home blend in with every other house on the block. Your home should feel lived-in, reflecting your personal tastes, not as if it was plucked out of a catalogue. This is the perfect time for you to express your style and get funky with some creative pieces.

There’s no right or wrong way to decorate with art, so let your emotions be your guide. After all, the home is where you spend the majority of your time, so your surroundings should bring you joy.

Encourages Conversation

Art can also be a great way to spark interesting conversations. When two people look at the same piece of abstract art, they likely won’t see the same things. After sharing your interpretations, you might look at the same piece in an entirely different light.

Expressing your opinion about art is also a great way to engage with your emotions. Chatting with someone about what drew you to this specific painting or photograph can reveal a lot about yourself. These conversations are a great way to connect with someone on a deeper level.

How does the ReStore support Habitat’s mission?

Our work is supported by a unique social enterprise model, in which our ReStores play a key role. The ReStores allow us to support our costs of administration by generating our own revenue, rather than by using donations to cover these expenses.

So every purchase through our ReStores goes towards covering necessary expenses of running a not-for-profit, meaning that every dollar donated to Habitat HM is used directly for building affordable housing within our community.
