Calling all creatives: Volunteer at the ReVive Centre!

When you think of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, you probably think of swinging a hammer on a build site. While we do have construction volunteer roles available, they are far from the only option if you’re looking to get involved with us. In fact, we’re excited to announce that we have new volunteer opportunities in our Mississauga ReVive Centre where you can flex your creative muscles, benefit the environment and learn new skills in a positive and upbeat atmosphere.

What is the ReVive Centre?

The ReVive Centre is Habitat’s exclusive upcycling facility in Mississauga. It’s a product development centre which allows us to maximize our material and product donations, and increase the saleability of items in our ReStores. Since its creation just over a year ago, the ReVive Centre has grown into an amazing faucet of Habitat’s efforts to build safe, decent and affordable homes for local families in need.

ReVive has several great partners, such as Sawmill Sid and Amberwood Doors, who provide material donations of items like wood offcuts and live edge wood. Teams of individual volunteers, as well as corporate teams taking part in team build days, use these generously donated materials to create brand new items which are sold in our ReStores. Sherian Groppini, owner of From the Attic Interiors, has also been a great partner through teaching DIY techniques and showing teams how to make the most of their DIY experiences.

Teams of volunteers also take donated items from the ReStore and breathe new life into them through adding a chic or antique touch. This upcycling process also allows for donated items to have a fresh new look when they’re sold in the ReStore. Items which are upcycled in the ReVive Centre get a special tag in the ReStore, so people know they’re looking at a unique, one-of-a-kind item designed specially for them!

In addition to being a great creative place to learn new skills, ReVive is a green initiative. It allows us to repurpose donated items which otherwise might be recycled, and prevents other donated materials from ending up in a landfill. How can I sign up to volunteer at the ReVive Centre?

The ReVive Centre is currently looking for volunteers to join our team! We’ll teach you how to use some tools, let you flex your creative muscles or simply give you the space to putter around and create your own inventions! In addition to having a direct impact on our efforts to sell more products and therefore raise more funds for our build projects, by volunteering in ReVive you’ll also join an incredibly positive and upbeat community.

We make it easy for volunteers to sign up for their first shift in 30 minutes or less — and our application process is all available online! Simply follow this link to start your application. We can’t wait to meet you!

How else can I get involved with the ReVive Centre?

We hope you’re as excited about the opportunities in our ReVive Centre as we are, and we’re happy to offer several additional ways for you to get involved.

In addition to volunteer opportunities, Habitat’s ReVive Centre also offers team building experiences for corporate teams. Your corporate team can sign up for a half day or full day of upcycling. You’ll have a unique project to finish in one day, so you can be proud of the work that you’ve accomplished. Team building experiences in ReVive offer a unique way for your company to make a corporate donation to a local charity, and make a positive impact on your corporate social responsibility efforts in your community.

Team building in ReVive also allows your corporate team to bond over working on creative projects. Your team will have the chance to interact in a new, fun atmosphere where your office titles don’t matter because it’s all about giving back to the community.
