Are you in the market to donate used furniture? You might be wondering where to donate used furniture in the GTA — and if you are then you’re in luck, because there a number of nonprofits and local organizations which accept a variety of used furniture items. Some of the organizations listed below even offer free pickups from your home.
While this is not intended to be a fully comprehensive list, it will give you a good idea of some of the organizations near you that will accept your donations of used furniture. Furniture Bank
Accepted donation items: Chairs, tables, end tables, credenzas, bookshelves (no taller than six feet), sofas and love seats, dressers, night tables, desks (not larger than four feet) and kitchen tables.
Locations served: Standard service areas include Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, Markham, Pickering, York and Vaughan. You can call for details about donating to areas outside of these, including Ajax, Uxbridge, Halton Hills and Milton. Furniture Bank Greater Toronto’s partner, You Move Me, serves the areas of Burlington and Hamilton.
Drop off policy: There is a drop-off unit in Toronto, and you can also drop off items at the Mississauga Furniture Bank’s warehouse in Oakville on Monday and Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with no appointment. When you drop off your furniture, fill out the Furniture Bank’s tax receipt form to ensure you receive a charitable tax receipt for your donation. You can also fill out the online furniture pickup request form to get a quote for your pickup.

Where your donation goes: Donated furniture items are redistributed to individuals in your community such as people who are transitioning out of homelessness, women and children escaping abusive situations and newcomers and refugees coming to Canada.
The Salvation Army
Accepted donation items: Kitchens, cabinetry, sinks, home furniture including tables, couches and shelving and storage units, office supplies and furniture, seasonal tools and supplies, working appliances, home decor and lighting fixtures.
Locations served: The Salvation Army serves a range of areas, including Ajax, Brampton, Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener, Markham, Milton, Mississauga, Oakville, Pickering, St. Catharines, Toronto, Waterdown and Windsor. Drop off policy: You can find a Salvation Army drop bin near you by following this link. The organization asks that, when possible, you drop off your items at a Welcome Donor Centre. If you are looking to donate items in bulk, you can arrange a pickup for a minimum of three furniture items in certain areas specified on The Salvation Army’s website.

Where your donation goes: When you give used furniture to the Salvation Army, your donated items are put to sale in their Thrift Stores. Proceeds from the sales of these items support the organization’s social programs and services. Items which are not sold are recycled.
Red Door Family Shelter
Accepted donation items: Red Door Family Shelter is currently looking for donations of dressers and wardrobes, kitchen tables, chairs and coffee tables. Other high priority items include table and chair sets, dining hutches and sideboards, chests of drawers, dressers and night tables, end tables, shelving units and desks.
Locations served and drop off policy: The organization offers pickups for furniture from Bathurst Street to Markham Road in the east, and from Lake Ontario North to Lawrence. Red Door Family Shelter’s website notes that the average cost of a furniture pickup is $100.

Where your donation goes: Red Door’s Moving Program connects families leaving their shelter with donated furniture according to the needs of the family. This allows the family to spend more of their “start up money” on necessities like food and clothing, instead of paying for furniture.
Just Junk
Accepted donation items: Beds, love seats, pull-out couches, sofas, mattresses, couches, chairs, desks, television stands, chairs, desks, recliners, nightstands, tables, bookshelves and other shelving units, ottomans and more.
Locations served: Just Junk has locations in Burlington, Brampton, Dundas, Guelph, Halton Hills, Hamilton, Markam, Mississauga, Oakville, Peel, St. Catharines, Toronto, Waterdown and more. You can find a full list of the areas they serve by following this link.
Drop off policy: You can book your furniture pickup online. Just Junk’s team will provide a two-hour window and call you 20 minutes ahead of time. They will also provide free estimates.

Where your donation goes: Just Junk is slightly different than the other organizations listed as they are not a nonprofit. They recycle items they pick up from your home, but also donate to local charities such as Goodwill if items are in decent condition.
Habitat for Humanity
Accepted donation items: Kitchens, cabinetry, sinks, home furniture including tables, couches and shelving and storage units, office supplies and furniture, seasonal tools and supplies, working appliances, home decor and lighting fixtures.
Locations served: Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga represents Burlington, Mississauga, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills and Georgetown. Habitat for Humanity GTA serves Brampton, Caledon, Toronto, Scarborough and the region of York. Habitat Durham represents Ajax Oshawa and Uxbridge, and Habitat Hamilton serves the region of Hamilton. Drop off policy: You can drop off your items at the ReStore closest to you. Alternatively, you can schedule a free home pickup for your used furniture. Simply fill out Habitat’s online form to arrange a pickup from your garage, driveway, moving room or room inside your home. You’ll receive a charitable tax receipt for donations valued at over $100.

Where your donation goes: Donated furniture items are put into Habitat’s ReStores, warehouse outlets and social enterprises which raise funds for Habitat’s home building projects. Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes for local low-income families, working towards a vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
